Alex Gause and Kofi Quaye Meet in Syracuse
In the mid-nineties, Quaye met Alex Gause in downtown Syracuse during a meeting with Rufus Morris, a renowned rapper turned music entrepreneur. Alex had recently relocated to Syracuse and was introduced by Rufus. This meeting marked the beginning of a strong friendship and business collaboration that continues to this day.
Unlikely Partners with Common Interests
Despite their differing backgrounds, Alex and Quaye found common ground. Alex, born and raised in New York City, embodied the city’s vibrant energy and style. His tough exterior, forged in the rough neighborhoods of New York, contrasted with his cool demeanor. They discovered mutual interests during their conversations. Alex was intrigued by Quaye’s experience as a published author and owner of a Black newspaper in Syracuse. In turn, Quaye was fascinated by Alex’s extensive knowledge of the music industry, having managed several rappers and worked with famous artists.
Founding Mysteek Entertainment
Their shared passion led to the creation of Mysteek Entertainment, a performing artist management company based in Syracuse. The company aimed to identify, promote, and manage rappers and musicians across various genres. This was a time when many young Americans, black, white and from other races were captivated by rap music, making talent abundant. Mysteek Entertainment organized concerts featuring artists signed to their record label, drawing large crowds and building significant momentum.
Expanding Ventures: Mysteek Foundation and Mysteek Fashions
Around this time, Quaye proposed the idea of starting a nonprofit organization, Mysteek Foundation. The foundation’s mission was to advocate for youth and young adults, providing assistance and guidance to those in need. They planned to apply for grants and solicit funds from individuals and organizations.
Additionally, they launched Mysteek Fashions, aiming to create a clothing brand, open stores across the U.S., and export clothing to Africa. Despite their ambitious efforts, they faced serious challenges due to a lack of sufficient working capital. Artists needed regular stipends, office rents had to be paid, and clothing manufacturers required compensation. Staff also had to be hired and paid to manage the company’s operations.
Continuing the Partnership
Today, Mysteek Entertainment, Mysteek Fashions, and Mysteek Foundation cpntinue to exist, and are actively exploring to expand, especially in Africa. Quaye is currently in Africa, while Alex remains in New York. Despite the challenges, they continue to harbor dreams of making a significant impact in the industry. They understand that turning ideas into successful businesses requires substantial capital to finance projects fully.
Alex Gause and Quaye remain hopeful and determined to leverage their unique strengths and shared vision to turn their dreams into reality, aiming to make a lasting impact in the music and entertainment industry.
Quaye, Gause and Stephens launch a book project.
Quaye and Gause have announced their latest venture. They have collaborated with Patrice Stephens to write and publish a children’s Christian book, to be released soon.
“The book focuses on making it easier for children to understand what Christianity is all about,” said Gause.
To all three authors and collaborators- Quaye, Gause and Stephens- the need for such a book is obvious. In a world dominated by social media, children are exposed to religious messages that confuse them. Their book aims to present Christianity in a way that children can understand and relate to.
Publication dates will be announced later.
